Aloha and welcome to your Heart Magic, an illuminating space where psychology, spirituality and heart wisdom meet. Here's your host, Dr Bethann Kapansky-Wright, the clinical psychologist with a mystic mind.
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright :Aloha everybody, welcome to your Heart Magic. This is Dr Bethann Kapansky-Wright and we are doing an energy update for the month of December. Today we will be talking about what the Akashic Records had to say about the month December and also looking at the moons and some of the astrological transits happening right now. So December kicked off with a new moon new moon in Sagittarius and I think that any month that starts with a new moon and that really beautiful energy of beginnings and intention setting just feels like an auspicious month and a month that might be filled with magical kinds of things. And, as it turns out, december is jam-packed with all sorts of interesting dates and transits and jewels of information from multiple metaphysical disciplines. So let's start with the Akashic Records. The Akashic Records named December the perpetuation of wisdom, which I thought was such a beautiful label for the month. And every month when I go into the records to find out about the energy for the upcoming month, for the collective, they always give me images and usually give me a phrase or something that kind of designates this is the imparting of knowledge. And the records themselves opened with all these images of big libraries and I saw students and more Grecian, roman type times, ancient times, sitting on the steps of a huge stone temple, and they were learning from a philosopher, from a teacher, and there was this emphasis on the energy of learning, of having wisdom be imparted. There was an emphasis on dialogue and that curiosity and investigation that one might have if they found themselves learning from somebody who was a renowned philosopher, and you were stepping into the role of being a student and wanting to seek out new information. And that sets the tone for the month of December. It is a month where any kind of new insight gained, new discovery, exploration, it's supported and it's encouraged and I thought that was a beautiful message. It's kind of in contrast to the busyness that often comes with the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. And as I was working with the records and I could feel this bright energy around learning and educating ourselves, I had this moment in my own mind, my own kind of side commentary going as I'm bringing this message through and I'm thinking like, wow, who has time for that? This month A lot of people are really busy, but what I felt in the Akashic Records is that, even if you might not necessarily have a ton of time on your hands this month to sign up for an online course and take that course, and perhaps you do and that feels really fun to you. But even if you don't have the time, you might find yourself drawn to signing up for something or purchasing something or archiving an article that you want to come back and read. Maybe you plant the new seeds where you say I'd really like to learn more about this in the upcoming year.
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright :One of the metaphors that came through in the records was the idea that, for example, somebody might start researching a place that they want to travel in 2025, and that's still always off. Maybe they're not going to go overseas and go to this country for a while, but maybe something comes through in December that sparks that idea and they fall down a rabbit hole for an hour reading something that illuminates this idea inside of them. And so, again, there was this idea that seeds were being planted, and for some of us, that might be something that we fully start to take and develop, and maybe we really do learn a lot this month. For others of us, it might be these new insights or little bright spots of a new philosophy or ideology, and this could be all sorts of things. This could be something very practical. This could be something that is more intuitive and more cosmic and spiritual. So there wasn't a focus point on what we might feel drawn to learning this month. It was just more this idea of being exploratory and investigative and saying yes to anything that we feel called to learn more about or educate ourselves about. Something else that the records encouraged us to do this month was to have a beginner's mind and to absolutely keep an open mind to what shows up. We were encouraged to forget what we think we know, to be open to new ideas, to embrace new ideas and novel ways of thinking.
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright :I find this interesting because Mercury is in retrograde this month and retrograde is often a time since Mercury rules not only communication but part of how we communicate. It's our thoughts, it's our mind, it's our ideas and our cognitions and our thought constructs, and so sometimes, when Mercury is in retrograde, we might think of that as a time that we are realigning and recalibrating how we think about things, what our thought life is, and so this idea of forget what you think you know and being open to the newness goes really beautifully with this idea of Mercury being in retrograde and a recalibration of ideologies and a recalibration of thought constructs. There's just an overall open and warm-hearted energy for receiving new wisdom, receiving new information and learning that permeates the entire month of December. The other thing that I felt in the records is this exhortation that ties into this being the last month of the year, and it was also this idea of use this time this month to take a time out, if you need to, to have a reset, to fill your hearts up with whatever things represent goodness to you. There can be a focus this month on gifts and giving and receiving, and that isn't necessarily all material gifts. A lot of that is what are the gifts of the season.
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright :This is an excellent time to think about what gifts have come through this last year. What gifts are there in the season for you in your December, whatever corner of the world you live in and whatever's going on with the seasonal cycles there. What other gifts of time or new resources or creativity or inspiration have come through for you this month and so really using those to nourish our souls and to fill ourselves up and to replenish ourselves, because I had such a sense that in 2025, things are taking off and I don't have a specific way that that was coming through. The way that came through in the records was seeing a race car revving its engine and getting ready to like step on the gas and go. So we are encouraged this month also to take rest and to really think about the things that fill us up and to receive those as soul medicine. And if for you, gathering with family or holiday traditions or some of the things that some people do enjoy, if they don't fill you up, if you are in circumstances where they take from you or they bring up grief or conflict or something like that, then the wisdom would be then focus on the things that do fill you up, focus on making the magic that you can wherever you find yourself and pouring that into you like medicine for the heart and medicine for the soul.
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright :Last, we were encouraged to see december as a voyage, and this was this very playful image that came through where I was seeing voyagers and it was kind of cartoonish of seeing people like out on the open water following the stars. Being on this idea of a voyage and to stay fluid and adaptable this month and to release rigid expectations of what our schedules will look like or how things will look and to embark on this voyage throughout the month of December and I was thinking personally what a fun metaphor that would be to play with and if you really enjoy journaling or any other kind of creative work, using that as a creative prompt to think about, like, well, where did I voyage this week, what emotional states did I visit, what new lands or experiences might I have collected? I personally enjoy personifying or animating those kinds of ideas, and so sometimes I will do creative prompts where I'll give like, little names to the places that I visited or make a little timeline of experiences that I've had and turn it into a little treasure map or something like that or do something fun with it that makes it creative and makes it interesting for me and also is very integrative and helps me make sense of my experience itself and stay open to how the experience unfolds. So we have this very open, exploratory, discovery-based energy in the Akashic and this ties in so beautifully with where things are astrologically. We open the month with not only the new moon, but it's the new moon in Sagittarius.
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright :We are in Sagittarius season and Sagittarius is all about the expansion of ideas and about adventure and curiosity and exploration and truth-seeking and one of my favorite things that I take away from working with the sign of Sagittarius is that Sagittarius is the archer, and I think about this idea of the archer and aiming an arrow and how, when we are trying to live consciously and live from our hearts, then our target is always love. We are always seeking to find and to stay on the path of the heart and to come back to a place of love. That's what our heart wisdom, that's what being in our heart, magic, is all about. It doesn't have to look a certain way it's not meant to look a certain way, but it is all about what is your heart drawing you towards? What is the truest choice that you could make on your journey of love at this time?
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright :And so I often think about Sagittarius and this idea of the archer and the arrow as being truth-seeking, and truth is ultimately about love. It is about finding the love in a situation, finding the higher wisdom, finding the lesson, finding the heart of the matter, and love is always seeking to free itself, to keep evolving and becoming a higher expression. If we think about love as an energy that is ultimately connected to source energy, and whatever our idea is of source, or God, or universe, or spirit or however we might think about our relationship with the numinous. Most of us, I think, would say love is at the core, and so love is always evolving, it's always seeking to grow, to expand, to understand itself in new forms. We are an expression of that love, and our unique individuality and our growth and our authenticity is an expression of that love.
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright :And so when I look at the idea of expansion and discovery and what the Akashic says about this month and I make that really personal for myself then my question this month is where is love leading me now? How am I being guided to evolve or expand? At this time? There's that encouragement to come back to my heart and look at how am I doing on my path? Am I still following the path of the heart? If I've strayed, how can I come back to that? And so I share those questions of self with you in case they help you in your own process, because I think that's what this new moon that we just passed, on December the 1st, is ultimately all about coming back to the heart of our matters and truth-seeking and asking ourselves am I in my heart right now? Am I living my truth? And if the answer to any of that is no or I don't know. Then the follow-up question is well then, how can I better live authentically, how can I move myself forward in a way that feels more in alignment with my heart path, knowing that there's no right or wrong for that? This is a very individual question to contemplate, but as we move through the first couple weeks of December and move towards the full moon in the middle of the month, that is something that we can be focusing on and thinking about. We do have a full moon on December 15th. It is a cold moon and it's the full moon in Gemini astrologically, and it is an excellent moon, after you've been contemplating those questions, for really doing an evaluation and an assessment of. So what did I learn on my heart path this year? Where am I at?
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright :In our last episode, we happened to be talking about the archetype of the tarot card judgment, and how judgment is this? Invitation to do a life review from a space of self-compassion and forgiveness and self-kindness, from the eyes of the heart and the eyes of love. It's not a time to judge ourselves based on what we think we did wrong or be harsh on ourselves. It's a compassionate review and I think that card speaks really beautifully to the energy of this full moon and this last full moon of the year and what it's really about. It's that assessment and looking at how did I do this year, how did I grow, what did I learn, what mistakes did I make? That taught my heart something about how to be more authentic. There's not judgment in this moon, there's grace, there is forgiveness and there is appreciating the completion and really seeing the evolution of whatever grew for us in 2024.
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright :And of course, we carry that energy into the last couple weeks of the year and into the next new moon. But what I love so much about this full moon in the second half of the month is it just feels so like magic packed. So first, we've got the full moon happening on December 15th and astrologically both Mars and Mercury are going to be in retrograde on that moon, which can be a slowing of energy. But I think that's wonderful because it lends itself to not taking hasty actions and to being more in a yin phase, of just reflecting and receiving, of learning new things Again, having that beginner's mind, planting seeds for new steps, not necessarily taking them. So we've got this full moon. That's all about seeing the arc and the journey that we've taken.
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright :And then, a few days later, on the 20th, we have the solstice winter solstice for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere and summer solstice for our Southern Hemisphere friends that are joining us. I know who some of you are. Thank you for being here. So, no matter where you find yourself, I guess what hemisphere part of the world, the solstice is always about a time to take stock, to look at the dance of shadow and light, not only in your natural surroundings and how that might be playing out with the geography of where you live, but to appreciate the dance of shadows and light in your own life. So for those of us that are in the Northern Hemisphere, this is usually the longest night is right around solstice time and appreciating the gifts of the darkness and turning n words and how we can introspect and look for the gifts that we might only see when it is pitch black out and we have to be guided by either starlight or, if it's really black, by the light and our heart and our intuition and feeling our way through.
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright :So, solstice happening, and then, just a couple days later, the sun moves into Capricorn, and so we are then in Capricorn season on December 22. And that is this very earth based energy that is all about goal setting and ambition and hard work and the foundations that we're building in our life. So we go from this exploratory, open discovery, this expansion kind of energy and as we move into the last bit of the month we might feel called to start to ground that down more, especially as we move through the holiday season and begin to turn our attention to what's to come in 2025. And so then we round out the month with a new moon in Capricorn and that is called a black moon because we have two new moons that fall in the same month, which doesn't happen very often. And the new moon in Capricorn is about planting tangible steps. What do we want to manifest? What goals are you setting? It's kind of this cliche thing to think about making a vision board for the year ahead or to do resolutions or do an intention list or something like that, and you can do those things or not do those things. That's completely up to you. But the new moon energy will support doing those kinds of things.
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright :Capricorn, as I said, is not only about ambition and drive and hard work and perseverance, but it is a very tangible earth energy.
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright :So it's about the foundations that we're building in our lives.
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright :So we take all that juicy, truth and the new insight and all the things that we've been learning in Sagittarius season and we start to ground it down and think now, what do I want to do with all of this?
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright :So that story arc is to be continued when I come back in January with January's energy update. But for today, that takes us through the month of December, for December's energy, which to me feels very magical, it feels very curious and investigative, it feels like a month of discovery and contemplation and just celebrating and integrating whatever has come through for you this past year. So I am looking forward to all of that and seeing how it shows up for myself and how it shows up for others. I will be back next week with a new episode. Our topic is talk story time and I will be sharing some passages from my work, clustered around some theme that is yet to be determined, but most likely it will be inspired by the time of year and the December season. In the meantime, have a beautiful week and, as always, be well, be love, be you and be magic and be magic.
